“In my current area of practice, called Interwoven, I make complex patterns from a number of interconnected elements in which I explore shape, dimension, colour and texture. The technique developed invites the viewer to explore how the lines looks to be actually weaving in and out of the each other which is formed as part of the intricate design process.

This piece, called Interwoven – Dimensionality 3, has two separate three dimensional elements woven together creating one object (that is actually 2 dimensional).”

Joyleene Abrey is an emerging multidisciplinary artist practicing from her home studio with a view of the mountains in Lutrawita (Tasmania) Australia and a whippet or two at her feet.

Exploring culture, geometry, nature and words, art for Joyleene is a tool of continuous learning to explore the intersect between order and whimsy or manmade and organic structures with a desire to learn more about the world around her.

There are two sides to Joyleene’s art, the first is highly structured and involves extensive planning for the intricate and exact detail required to achieve accurate two dimensional complex patterns for the viewer to get lost in. These are executed using cotton thread sewn into heavy paper. The other side to the art practice is not at all structured, often inspired by words, nature, colours, textures and patterns, this results in three dimensional pieces that incorporate found or repurposed objects interwoven into fibre creations.
