Resonance #2 continues the exploration of inner landscapes, blending vivid pinks, purples, and blues to create a dynamic, textural surface. I’ve created a loose, sketched outline of a flower with a boldly textured stem emerges from the abstract background like a memory surfacing through time. The rhythmic marks, dot patterns, and layered colour fields suggest echoes of sound or movement—resonance in both a visual and emotional sense. This piece invites the viewer to look closely, discovering hidden shapes and stories within the layering. My aim was to create a gentle but confident interplay between chaos and structure, spontaneity and resilience.”

Julie McDonald (Newcastle, NSW) is a visual artist now based in Tasmania who works across painting, drawing, and sculpture. She employs materials like inks, acrylics, charcoal, oil sticks, and assembled sculptural forms using wood, found objects, paper, and canvas. Her distinctive visual language centres on the Inner Female Space, thoughtfully expressed through symbolic and metaphorical imagery that delves into themes of cultural identity, resilience, and personal reinvention.

Among her significant projects are The Uterus Collection and Unfolding Women, both of which grew from her artist residency at Quamby Estate and emerge from personal and shared narratives. Julie has exhibited widely in Australia, including solo and group shows at Poimena Art Gallery (Launceston), Working Dog Gallery (Sydney), Waterline Art Gallery (Ettalong), and Gosford Regional Gallery, and has earned multiple awards such as two Judge’s Choice distinctions at Art Trails Tasmania (2024).

She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours, 2022–2023) from the University of Tasmania, plus a Graduate Diploma in Education (Art) and a Bachelor of Visual Communication (Art) from the University of Newcastle.
