A companion to either hang on your wall or keep close around your neck. Radiating eternal joy and delight. Reminding us to follow their lead, smile, and hang in there.

Cedar Butcher is a queer emerging multidisciplinary artist based in the banks of kanamaluka, lutruwita and is currently completing their Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Tasmania. Their practice seeks to embody radical joy and whimsy in an oversaturated culture of doom, utilising play as a means to foster childlike wonder. Through an iterative methodology that engages ceramics, walking, field recording, drawing and printmaking, they seek to develop a circular dialogue with place and self of celebration and healing.

Growing up on Bundjalung country in New South Wales allowed their relationship and deep appreciation for the environments they occupy to flourish. The flooding of the Wilson River in 2022 saw their hometown and community of Lismore devastated; this natural disaster deeply impacts and informs all they do.
