Bug Poetry #3 (2025)
Cyanotype and embroidery on fabric
24 × 24cm
This piece, originally part of a series created for an exhibition in Meanjin/Brisbane called Creepy Crawlies, is inspired by lifecycle imagery, being othered as a queer/trans person, and the process of gender transition. I think we can all see ourselves reflected at various points in our lives in the vibrant tenacity and fragility of insects.
Francis Anne Cameron is a part-time artist and full-time observer of the world currently working and studying a Master of Occupational Therapy on the shores of Kanamaluka/the Tamar River. They work across several mediums, including textiles, printmaking, and paper-making, with a current focus on whatever they can make in their tiny bedroom in the student dorms. Their artmaking practice is informed by their experiences as a queer person, their attachment to textile art and printmaking, and the natural environment. They have a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Visual Art) from the University of Canberra, despite only setting foot in Canberra to attend their graduation ceremony, and they have been in exhibitions in Meanjin/Brisbane at Side Gallery and The Station.
