“Phoenix delves into the emergence of life within ecological systems, weaving a narrative through the intimate lens of a bird’s nest cradled in the hollow of a lightning-scarred tree. Entwined with moss and spider webs, this secluded refuge embodies resilience. Sheltered from the elements, yet pulsing with quiet vitality. The nature of nature.”
Riley Masters is a multidisciplinary artist based in Lutruwita/Tasmania. Through her Bachelor of Fine Arts, she has cultivated a deep appreciation for multimedium creation. Her practice is anchored in an ongoing exploration of painting, photography, ceramics, alcohol inks, and digital fabrication. Each medium offers a distinct lens through which she investigates form, texture, and expression.
In Riley’s practice, Place is not only where we stand, but what stands within us. We are shaped by quiet echoes of experience, each moment layering into the architecture of self. Her work emerges from this inner terrain: a gentle excavation of the everyday, where intimacy hides in plain sight and context whispers its truths through the fabric of life. Whimsy and ethereality thread through her practice, inviting viewers into spaces that feel both familiar and otherworldly.
The exploration of personal ecologies lies at the heart of Riley Masters’ practice, often expressed through motifs of flora and fauna. These organic forms serve as vessels for reflection, allowing her to navigate the interconnectedness of identity, memory, and place.
