“The artwork was part of my solo exhibition in 2022 titled Spirit of Abstraction, Long Gallery, Hobart. The work pays homage to the holistic aspirations of the Bauhaus movement, where art and crafts were seen as a way to develop full human potential and unite the mind, body and spirit.”
Joanna Pinkiewicz is a Polish-born artist who migrated to Tasmania in 1993. She completed Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1996 and is currently undertaking an Honours project at the University of Tasmania in Launceston. Her practice explores spiritual and metaphysical ideas through abstraction. Engaging in iterative processes and sensitive material exploration, she works primarily in watercolour and oil paint. Her current Honours research investigates how ritual informs abstraction by bringing an embodied approach to abstraction. Based in her Lulworth studio, Joanna draws inspiration from the Pipers River Estuary and her Hindu spiritual practice.
