In my recent print series, I draw on the Japanese concepts of mu (無) and ma (間).

Mu speaks of emptiness, but not as a void, it is the clear, open space of mind where ego and distraction fall away.

Ma is its partner, the pause, the quiet between things. It is the rhythm that gives form its meaning, the white paper that lets a line breathe.

Together, mu and ma remind me that what is absent can be as powerful as what is present.

Kim is a Lutruwita/Tasmania-based artist working in ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and collage.

Her practice draws on nature, social and environmental concerns with an intuitive approach to materials and design.  She exhibits regularly at Sawtooth ARI and in Sydney and completed a ceramic residency in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan in 2025.

Kim studied at Newcastle Art School, Sydney Ceramics School, and Central Saint Martins College, London.  She is active in community workshops, mentors emerging artists, and brings a collaborative, inclusive approach to her work.
