This atypical catalogue of parts illustrates the possible costs of being a trans man. It is acknowledged that nothing represented in the piece is needed for someone to be a trans man. However, the products represented in the piece represent what the artist/subject believes he needs in order to achieve his true self. This piece encapsulates the kind of extreme costs that can be involved in a person achieving their true self and highlights the need for medical and governmental reform so that AU$125,430 debt is not acquired by the artist/subject in his foreseeable life (based on average lifespans), discounting hair cuts and clothing, at current prices. For perspective this is roughly equivalent to the cost of a Bachelors and Masters degree plus a house deposit. Thanks to Jay Sykes for the body painting and assisting with the photograph.
