Death Mountain

Clementine Blackman

  • RETURN TO 'THE ARROWHEAD EXPANDING OUTWARDS'

The bottom of the mountain

Is a safe place

Except for:

Avalanches,

Falling rocks,

Falling climbers,

Wild creatures and frostbite.

Death is less likely at the bottom of the mountain

Until you climb the mountain

Then death is at the bottom of the mountain

And you must climb away from death.

The higher you climb away from death,

The greater the likelihood of death,

At the bottom of the mountain.

The victory

Of climbing

And reaching or claiming

Propels the climber;

And I wonder, as a layman,

What is up there?

I can almost see my houseplant

Growing,

It's a climber.

It's growth has been alarming,

Since I repotted it.
